West Sussex County Council has developed the award winning Waste Prevention Advisor Volunteer project in partnership with the Waste & Energy Research Group (WERG) at the University of Brighton and the district and borough councils in West Sussex. The aim of the initiative is to train members of the community to help promote waste prevention throughout West Sussex.
The sessions are geared to cover a wide range of topics to do with waste and how we can reduce it, including national and local strategies and policies, home composting, food waste, cotton nappies, smart shopping and recycling.
| What do WPAs do? A fully qualified Waste Prevention Advisor Volunteer can expect to actively participate in waste prevention activities in our communities. In 2008 alone, our Waste Prevention Advisors attended over 138 events promoting waste prevention. Some WPAs carry out home visits to advise and assist in reducing waste in the home. All have undertaken a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check and continue to be passionate about sustainable living. |
