Welcome to the... / News / RSPB Event is a...
Our latest Green Diggers Club event held on a sparkling morning in February was a great success. Club members arrived at the beautiful RSPB centre at Pulborough Brooks to be greeted by the RSPB volunteer teacher and Green Club adults who would be on hand during the morning to assist in all the activities.
In the classroom and settled on the patchwork quilt, Green Diggers, it turns out, already know a lot about the birds in their gardens. Rapidly confident in front of the whole group, each Digger no matter how young, shared their knowledge with the group. Deciding which kitchen scraps could be fed to garden birds was a popular activity emphasising how some food waste need not go straight in the bin.
Biscuits and squash provided a much needed energy boost in time for ‘making’ activities. First a mini garden showing bird habitats – hedges, trees and ponds all came to life from stones, flowers and bits of twig! Finally funky bird feeders were created from empty plastic bottles, an exciting way of reusing them with the added attraction of enticing even more birds into the garden.
