Courtauld Commitment passes half century milestone for signatories

12 August 2011

Ocado, Carlsberg UK, Nestlé Waters UK, PLB Group and Typhoo are the latest UK companies pledging to take resource efficiency measures by signing up to the second phase of the Courtauld Commitment this year.

The voluntary agreement is run by waste advisory body WRAP, to support businesses to improve their overall performance and reduce their environmental impact.

Momentum for the Courtauld Commitment remains strong with an additional 17 signatories having signed up in the last year to support three sector targets associated with food and drink waste and packaging, across the UK grocery retail supply chain.

Dr Richard Swannell, Director of Design and Waste Prevention, WRAP, said:  “Since the second phase of the Courtauld Commitment was launched in March 2010, the UK’s leading grocery retail companies have come together to work on solutions to maximise the opportunity for a reduction in waste to the benefit of their businesses and consumers.

“Courtauld Commitment signatories represent the vast majority of leading brands purchased by UK shoppers, which offers huge potential for reducing waste across the UK.”
