West Sussex Green Club

Green Fingers - Winter 2007

It’s easy to overlook the beauty of a winter garden but make the effort to walk through the garden at least once a week, checking for plants that have heaved out of the ground, signs of rodent damage. With a lack of foliage, clearing up dead branches and debris is a breeze. We’ve included in this issue a host of other garden tips that will take you through to March.

The West Sussex Green Club continues to go from strength to strength. Thanks to all who completed the questionnaire featured in the last newsletter and congratulations to Mrs Andrews of Chichester who won a compost unit in the free draw.

The feedback we received was very positive and it is encouraging to know that so many people are benefiting from the club. If you have any comments or suggestions, we’re always pleased to hear them so do get in touch.

Happy Gardening!

The Green Club Team.

PS: Don’t forget that if you have any questions about gardening, you can ask other members via the Green Club forum. We hope that as the scheme evolves this forum will become more and more used as the community exchange ideas on green gardening!

Growing Herbs in a Wine case

One of the most common complaints amongst those keen on cooking is the often limited range and cost of herbs available in supermarkets.

Mad about Dafs!

Look carefully and you’ll soon see the first, taught sprouts bursting through the soil in anticipation of the annual yellow explosion of daffodils that confirm spring is upon us.

Reclaim!

Most District and Borough Councils in West Sussex have a kerbside collection of recyclable material, including green and garden waste.

Companion Planting

Gardening organically means that you are taking a wider view, looking at your garden as part of the whole ecology of the planet. In short, it means that you look to find natural ways to replenish what you take from the system.

Free Green Club Event at Wakehurst Place

The theme of the event will be leaf moulds, mulching, composting and how Wakehurst Place recycle water - an interesting tour, there may even be time to visit the laboratory at the site!
