From stamps to hard drives, from soil to car batteries, you would be amazed at what can be recycled! Recycling is the quick and easy way to make sure redundant equipment and surplus materials are not wasted. These recyclable materials are reprocessed into new products and as a result less rubbish is sent to landfill sites.
Taking action to recycle in and around your home and garden couldn’t be simpler.
Start recycling in the garden
Treat yourself to patio furniture made from recycled materials
Start composting
Cut empty plastic drinks bottles in half to make great planters or bird feeders
Plant seedlings in empty yoghurt pots, egg cartons or cardboard toilet roll tubes
String redundant CDs together to keep birds away from edible crops
Start recycling in the home
Use your old washing up water for the things that need to be washed before you put them out for recycling
Re-use old envelopes – just stick a label over the original address
Re-use scrap paper for notes
If your computer is in good working order but being replaced, try donating it to a local community group or charity
Got a stock of old video tapes? Most charity shops will accept donations of commercial videos or you could try donating them to local libraries or schools
And finally don’t forget to mark kerbside collection service dates on your calendar or put the recycling calendar from your council on the memory board and if you still have waste to recycle then make it part of your weekly supermarket trip and ‘drop when you shop’ at supermarket recycling centres.
