Over one million pumpkins are sold every year in the UK, most are used for carving at halloween. Families are already carving up pumpkins into scary jack-o-lanterns to celebrate.
Once the 1st of November arrives and halloween is over, hundreds of thousands of ornately carved pumpkins, not to mention all the pulp inside that is scraped out, goes straight into the bin and may end up in a landfill site. By putting your pumpkin in the compost bin, you can be sure your halloween celebrations don’t have the potential to scare past the 31st of October!
This Christmas Day, 87% of people in the UK will be tucking into a roast turkey dinner resulting in an extraordinary quantity of raw vegetable waste including the shells of approximately 240 million brussel sprouts and the peelings from 105 million potatoes, 20 million parsnips and 30 million carrots.
How are the food waste bins different from compost bins?
