Green Fingers Summer 2010

Summer is buzzing

With the prospect of a hot summer ahead (will the weather men be right this time?) our gardens, beds and pots are buzzing with activity as the weather improves.  Things are buzzing in West Sussex too as residents continue to increase recycling rates, more and more people are joining the Green Club, Waste Prevention Advisor Volunteers have never been busier in our local communities and everywhere you look there are exciting events to visit in the months ahead.  This season’s newsletter has interesting ideas for small productive gardens, even more ideas to help prevent wasting food and an insight into the work undertaken by our committed team of Waste Prevention Volunteers. Don’t forget our summer gardening tips for a productive plot in the season ahead.

Happy gardening!

Compost Bin Offer from £7.00 including delivery
220 Litre Composter
Compost bins are the must-have accessory for residents leading a sustainable lifestyle and there is no time like the present to begin recycling your organic and kitchen vegetable and green waste in these no assembly compost bins made from recycled plastic.
FOOD savers FOOD savers

Did you know that in the same way that we often take a shopping list when we go shopping and never look at it, we often put food in the freezer and forget it is there!!

Close the Loop!
Remember if you cannot compost at home you can take all your green waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS) or it is collected from your kerbside.
Take Action

After completing a free training course Waste Prevention Advisor Volunteers (WPAs) are fully qualified to support and advise residents on how to manage their waste and raring to make a difference in their local communities.

Lottie’s Plot

For groups and gardeners with a bit of unused space and a little ambition, keyhole gardens are ideal. They act like an organic recycling tank, using your food and garden waste as fuel to grow vegetables!
