Welcome to West... / Green Fingers
For all members of West Sussex Green Club success is the name of the game as the year draws to its wintry end. Not only have more and more West Sussex residents joined West Sussex Green Club but members have taken up the challenge to reduce, reuse and recycle to live a more sustainable lifestyle.
Composters, Food Diaries and Reclaim Soil Conditioner have all been in high demand. In this edition of the newsletter read about the award-winning Waste Prevention Advisor project, how to keep Christmas ‘green’ and what to do in your plot to ensure you reduce your food miles with a supply of healthy, organic produce.
Along with winter gardening tips on the back page, as always your seasonal newsletter brings ideas, news of exciting developments and fresh views on living a sustainable life style.
Compost bins are the must-have accessory for residents leading a sustainable lifestyle and there is no time like the present to begin recycling your organic and kitchen vegetable and green waste in these no assembly compost bins made from recycled plastic. |
Well done to West Sussex County Council Waste Prevention Advisor volunteers (WPAs). They have once again proved their commitment to spreading the sustainable living message - by winning a top award! |
Christmas is a time of year when we want to bring the outside in and make our homes glow with winter foliage and berries. Designing your own door wreath, table and tree decorations is the beginning of making sure your Christmas is 'green'. |
Did you know that if we eat all the food we buy and don't throw it out, the CO2 impact would be like taking 1 in every 4 cars off the road! That shocking fact highlights what a serious issue our food waste is. Not only that, if we didn't throw food away the average family with children would save £680 a year. |
Grow-your-own is the ideal way to ensure the vegetables on your plate are as fresh as they can be and have no carbon footprint. But where can the crops be grown? Renting an allotment is an ideal way but due to their popularity, allotments are hard to come by. |
